LSD Believed A Factor In NIU Student Death

NIU

Northern Illinois University Police concluded their investigation into the death of Oluwarotimi Okedina, who died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, after falling from a window in the Stevenson Towers residence hall complex.

According to a news release, NIU Chief of Police Thomas Phillips said that his department conducted extensive interviews with those who were with the student on the night that he died, as well as others who encountered him that evening. The information gathered through those interviews, along with analysis of all physical evidence at the scene, corroborate the coroner's finding that the death was accidental.

“All evidence points to the student being alone in the room at the time of his death. We believe that the presence of LSD and cannabis in his system impaired his judgment and caused him to ignore the risk of exiting the room through the window, which resulted in the fall,” Phillips said.

Police are continuing a separate investigation into the source of the drugs ingested by Okedina.
