The Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Performs "Aaron Copland’s America!"

Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center logo

Classical WNIU invites you to experience "Aaron Copland's America!" presented by the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 15th.  Rockford's award-winning Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra and Music Director Stephen Squires partner with members of the Rockford Dance Company for a spectacular evening of sights and sounds set to some of the most moving and enduring melodies ever penned, by iconic American composer Aaron Copland.

Hear -- and see! -- "Appalachian Spring," originally commissioned by Martha Graham in 1945 as ballet music, later arranged by Copland into an orchestral suite.  Also on the program: "The Tender Land," inspired in part by the writings of author James Agee* and the photography of Walker Evans, whose work famously documented the effects of the Great Depression.  You won't want to miss this evening of iconic music and dance, 7:30pm Friday, March 15th at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, at the Court Street Methodist Church in Rockford.  Get all the details on our Events page.
