Classical WNIU invites you to experience "Aaron Copland's America!" presented by the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 15th. Rockford's award-winning Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra and Music Director Stephen Squires partner with members of the Rockford Dance Company for a spectacular evening of sights and sounds set to some of the most moving and enduring melodies ever penned, by iconic American composer Aaron Copland.
Hear -- and see! -- "Appalachian Spring," originally commissioned by Martha Graham in 1945 as ballet music, later arranged by Copland into an orchestral suite. Also on the program: "The Tender Land," inspired in part by the writings of author James Agee* and the photography of Walker Evans, whose work famously documented the effects of the Great Depression. You won't want to miss this evening of iconic music and dance, 7:30pm Friday, March 15th at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, at the Court Street Methodist Church in Rockford.
