DeKalb, IL – Saturday marks one year since five students were shot and killed in a classroom at Northern Illinois University. NIU has been working for months on the best ways to commemorate the lives of those who were affected by the shootings: two committees came up with a mix of public and private events over the next few days, culminating in a candlelight ceremony Saturday evening. WNIJ's Susan Stephens spoke with NIU president John Peters. He says over the past year, he has gotten to know the families of the victims, and their needs were front and center when it came to this week's remembrances.
