A Sycamore man is in good condition in a Rockford hospital after crashing his small plane south of the DeKalb Airport.

62-year-old James Auman was flown by helicopter to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford after being pulled from the wreckage of his plane, which had lost power, crashed, and flipped in a Cortland cornfield near Route 38 east of Peace Road. Auman was the only person aboard the aircraft.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating and no cause has been officially determined yet.

The crash comes less than 24 hours after the crash of a medical helicopter near Rochelle. The pilot and two flight nurses died in that accident.
