Power Out For Thousands in Northwest Illinois After Monday's Storms

ComEd

Several thousand residents in Stephenson and Jo Daviess Counties remain without power after severe storms that blew through the region overnight late Monday and early Tuesday.

ComEd spokesman Paul Callighan says, as of about 5 pm Tuesday, 6000 customers were still without power. That's down from nearly 7000 at mid-day. Callighan says ComEd hopes to restore service to a large number of those customers Tuesday evening, but because of the severity of the damage in some locations, some repairs will extend through Wednesday.

Callighan says 40 crews are on site, including 20 contractors called in to help ComEd's own crews. Meanwhile, municipal and county public works crews and fire departments are trying to clear large numbers of downed tree limbs that have closed numerous roads across the area. Despite the extensive damage, no storm-related injuries have been reported so far.
