Reaction To NIU President's Planned Exit

Northern Illinois University’s long-time president is stepping down at the end of the academic year. John Peters made the announcement at his annual State of the University address Thursday.

The 67-year-old political scientist and administrator was hired in 2000 as the university’s eleventh president. His last day in the position will be June 30th, 2013.

Peters will be best known for his leadership following the 2008 classroom shooting that killed five students and injured many others. But that hasn’t been the only challenge during his tenure. WNIJ’s Susan Stephens has reaction from three people who know him well.
