Services scheduled for Crystal Lake man killed in theatre shooting

Funeral arrangements have been made for a northern Illinois native who was killed in last week's shooting at a suburban Denver movie theater.

A public visitation will be held Friday for John Thomas Larimer at a funeral home in Crystal Lake. A private funeral and burial are also planned.

Larimer was a Navy petty officer.

The 27-year-old Larimer, a cryptologic technician based at Buckley Air Force Base, was among 12 people killed when suspect James Holmes allegedly sprayed bullets into an Aurora, Colo. theater during a midnight showing of the new Batman movie.

Larimer's girlfriend, July Vojtsek of Algonquin, has said Larimer pushed her to the floor to protect her from the bullets.

According to the Navy, Larimer joined the service just over a year ago.
