Slideshow: Secretary of State White Presents Check For DeKalb Library Expansion

DeKalb library officials welcomed a visit from Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White Monday morning.

White presented a check to library director Dee Coover. The $11.6 million grant will pay for 48,000 square feet of land next to the current building. It also allows the library to remodel the current building which is on the National Register of Historic Buildings.

The money comes from the state's $31 billion capital construction program. Applications were ranked on library age and the size of the library in relation to the community population

The grant will be added to the match the library raised through public and private contributions to complete the project in the next several years.
