DeKalb, IL – Thursday night, October 2nd, the Avalon Quartet opened its 2008-2009 season of concerts at Northern Illinois University. Flutist Caroline Warren-Acosta joined the quartet for a concert of music by contemporary South American composers at 8pm in Boutell Memorial Concert Hall. The ensemble is in its second year as the NIU School of Music's Quartet-in-Residence, following the 38-year tenure of the acclaimed Vermeer Quartet. WNIJ's Guy Stephens spoke with two members of the Avalon Quartet: violinist Blaise Magniere (blez mah-nyair) and violist Anthony Devroye (duh-v(r)wah). Devroye says the group is working to establish its own identity at NIU.
