The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign set an enrollment record for a seventh consecutive year.
Even with a slight drop in the number of freshman, total enrollment at the Urbana campus is up 3% over last year to more than 47,800 students. Including the Chicago and Springfield campuses brings total U of I enrollment to more than 83,000.
The U of I takes enrollment snapshots on the tenth day of each fall semester.
At the flagship campus, freshmen enrollment was just over 7,500 — down 74 students from last year. African-American undergraduate total enrollment increased .6%. Latino enrollment rose 8.5%.
Total enrollment at other public universities in Illinois fell across the board, ranging from a 1.2 % decline at Illinois State University, to an 11.4 % drop at Chicago State University. However, Northern Illinois University saw a 3% increase in freshman enrollment this year.
