WNIJ's Gas Price Monday: January 11, 2016

For the most part, gas prices across the state are below $2 per gallon.

According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $1.87 on average. That’s four cents less than last week and about nine cents less than last year.

Chicago prices are at $2.32 per gallon. That's two cents less than last week and about 13 cents less than a year ago.

The state average is $1.96 per gallon. That’s four cents less than last week and 13 cents cheaper than it was last year.

On average, the cheapest gas in the state is in Champaign-Urbana. It’s priced at $1.73 per gallon of regular unleaded gas, which is the same as the cheapest gas in the state last week.

The national average is $1.96, which is three cents less last week but about 17 cents less than last year.

The state with the highest gas price average is California at $2.85 per gallon, which is one cent less than last week. Missouri has the lowest average price at $1.65 per gallon.
