Bobby Schilling

Republican Bobby Schilling is once again running for Congress. The one-term Republican, who lost his seat last year, announced Monday he'll try to reclaim his post in Illinois' 17th Congressional District.

There are several similarities between the candidates in Illinois’s 17th Congressional District, which includes Democratic-leaning chunks from Rockford and Peoria as well as wrapping through the Quad Cities and across rural northwestern Illinois.

Republican Congressman Bobby Schilling is unopposed in the March 20 primary, but whoever wins the Democratic nomination will be a serious threat.  There are 3 Democrats running in the 17th District primary - Greg Aguilar, Cheri Bustos and George Gaulrapp.  NIU political scientist Matt Streb says they benefit from a traditionally Democratic district that was made even more Democratic after redistricting.   Streb talks with WNIJ's Dan Klefstad about this contest.
