Governor Bruce Rauner made Rockford one of the stops on his two-day trip across Illinois. He met with a large group made up mainly of his fellow Republican elected officials.

Rauner criticized Democrats in the state Legislature and blamed them for the budget stalemate. He urged them to make Illinois more business-friendly. He told reporters after the event, “I’ll judge myself by how strong the economy in Rockford grows over the next two and six years, while I am governor. And we need a strong economy for everybody in Illinois.”

The initial phase of repairs to the run-down governor's mansion in Springfield is just about complete.

Architect Jeff Evans, who's coordinating the project as a volunteer , says it was in bad shape.

"The roof has been replaced. We've got about a week's worth of work to finish up odds and ends,” Evans said. “The leaks have stopped. There's no more water infiltration. The next thing will be just to complete the rest of the rehabilitation."

Governor-elect Bruce Rauner stopped in Rockford Friday during his statewide "thank you" tour.

Republicans are in control of the governor's mansion in Illinois for the first time since 2003. But Democrat Pat Quinn isn't prepared to throw in the towel just yet.
