UPS Set To Hire 1,000 Employees In Rockford Area

UPS announced Monday it will be hiring more than 1,000 seasonal workers in the Rockford area. The company is hiring at the Rockford Air Facility. According to a news release, the company will be offering a number of positions with the following starting wages: Pre-loaders: $10.10/hour Package handlers: $11.76/hour Package delivery drivers: $19.58/hour Tractor-trailer drivers: $27/hour Although these positions are seasonal, UPS says it can be a way for workers to get their foot in the door....

BorgWarner is expanding its operations in Dixon, Illinois.

The federal Bureau of Prisons today filed documents in federal court in Rockford to acquire Thomson Correctional Center at a price of $165 million. More than 1,100 jobs are expected to be generated once the facility is fully operational. The announcement was made this afternoon at the prison by Gov. Pat Quinn, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Thomson Mayor Jerry “Duke” Hebeler, who initially proposed in 2009 that the prison be sold to the federal government as an economic boost to the area.
