Northern Illinois University athletic officials have reported a $253,780 profit from the Jan. 1 Orange Bowl in Florida. The MAC conference distributed $1.3 million. Expenses for NIU totaled around $1 million.

Donna Turner, NIU Associate Athletic Director for Communications, says there was a net gain due to the agreements made with the Mid-American Conference and the effective management of expenses.

Northern Illinois University’s football team came up short last night in their first appearance in one of the nation’s top bowl games. The Huskies lost to the Florida State Seminoles 31 to 10 in the Orange Bowl. 

It was a disappointing end to an incredible season for Northern Illinois University's football team. The Florida State Seminoles bottled up the Huskies offense to win the Discover Orange Bowl, 31 to 10.

The NIU Huskies play tonight in the Orange Bowl.  Those who have followed the team through the years have a lot to be excited about.

Busloads of NIU Fans Head South

26 busloads of NIU students left Sunday from DeKalb for the Orange Bowl. 1,300 students and more than 50 trip advisers were bound for Miami. The game is Tuesday night at 7:30.

Huskies Head to Miami

The NIU football team heads for Miami today. The Huskies, who are ranked 15th in the nation, are preparing to play Florida State in the Orange Bowl New Year's Day. It's the first time a team from the Mid-American Conference will appear in a BCS game.

NIU may be an easy target to illustrate some frustration with the way the Bowl Championship Series are decided. Larger schools with winning records which have played bigger teams were left out.  NIU plays in the Mid-American Conference, and a MAC team has never made it into a BCS bowl. But a lot of things had to go right for the Huskies to get the nod--and they did.

The NIU Convocation Center played host Wednesday night to a pep rally for members of the Huskies football team.  Players took the floor during half-time of the NIU Men's Basketball game.
